Our clients were looking for a contemporary family home with a combined living, dining and kitchen being the central focus of the home. A significant design challenge was the fact that the block’s proximity to the Yarra River meant the home is in a natural flood zone.
As a result no living spaces could be at ground level and the lower level had to be totally open to allow for the natural flow of water to pass through the building. Key to the floorplan was the central living area and relationship to the expansive outdoor deck area with views out to the parkland.
The balance of the home needed to evolve around this space and views out to the open parkland from all major rooms was extremely important to our clients. A large master bedroom, two children’s bedrooms, a separate guest bedroom, plus a zoned rumpus room and double study round out this impressive modern home.
